Group work – to be done in groups of 5 students. Please note: This assessment will constitute 60% of your assessment marks for this topic.
Learners are required to create a Project Plan, designed to communicate to project stakeholders the specific nature, issues and methodology of a given project. This section requires you to select as a group, one project based upon either your work or social life and to demonstrate the practicality and suitability of your chosen project to project stakeholders.
Format for the Plan:
Topic Available mark
Introduction: Historical background – problem/opportunity/tender Background of organization
Project Objectives: Goal (i.e. strategic goals of organization) Purpose (i.e. impact/benefit of using output) KPIs related to Time, Cost and Quality Priority between time, cost and quality
Stakeholder Register: Include all key stakeholders, clearly defining their role on the project Implementation strategy e.g. in-house resources or contractors?
Assumptions & Constraints: Constraint = factors that set boundaries on project activities. E.g.: legal constraints such as safety or environmental laws; standards such as ISO 9000; working practices based on agreements or organizational policy etc. Assumption = factors considered in formulating plan & critical nature worthy of stating here e.g. availability of certain resources such as key expertise; dollar/yen exchange rate; state of existing property, funding available
Scope (broad terms) – key deliverables – described in a paragraph/ statement Work Breakdown Structure: Decompose to level required for PM – not too broad or detailed. (i.e. level for 1 person responsible, 8-80 hours, can be scheduled and costed) Separate top-level box for Project management. All items numbered. Verb+object for lowest-level tasks only if required; otherwise Adjective/nouns for deliverables. No irrelevant/nebulous tasks e.g. “manage issues” Don’t mix PM and technical tasks under same element.
The tasks shown below constitute 60% of the overall mark. 40% of the overall grade is allocated towards class activity for this MBA unit
